Historie of Terneuzen

In the 12 senctiory Terneuzen was called Ter Nose and was first mentioned in the archieves in 1325 . From Terneuzen there was the so called "Gentse Vaart" in the direction of Ghent. With the Pacification of Ghent, the city became in the hands of the "Staten". The current Terneuzense Market was the port. Already in 1460, the port of Terneuzen was mentioned. In this harbour, goods to be transported ,were shipped in a barge and pull in the direction of Ghent . This "Gentse Vaart" remained in use until 1583, in this year it was closed for the construction of the fortress Terneuzen. In 1491, the small village was fortified. Possibly because of its strategic position on the trip to Ghent. In 1827, the Ghent-Channel Terneuzen became operational. In Terneuzen came two locks. With the advent of this channel the Terneuzen grown to great size Tradingcity.

Now a day's Terneuzen employs around 55,000 inhabitants and is the largest town of Zeeland. The town is located in the heart of Zeeuws Vlaanderen, the lower part of the province of Zeeland. On either side of the Channel Ghent to Terneuzen are major industry. The town consists of 14 cores: Axel, Biervliet, Hoek, Koewacht, Throughput, Philippine, Sas van Gent, SluiskilWestdorpe, Spui, Terneuzen, , Zaamslag, Zandstraat and Zuiddorpe.

In 1962 the Terneuzen watersportcentre "Neusen" was born.



The association set itself the following objectives:

"To promote watersports in general, the sailsport in particular, partly from viewpoint of leisure, hobbies and knowledge of everything related on the practice of this sport ."

Now the club in possession of a Habour on the channel "Ghent-Terneuzen"and on the "Schelde". Intimacy and good will are highly valued. In addition to a nice clubhouse "De Vliegende Hollander" on the "Schelde" habour, the club organizes many members activities to promote social contact.Fishing-, Chartgame- and sailingcompetitions ensure the necessary healthy tension and relaxation.
